Burlington, VT

I just got back from a few-day jaunt to Burlington. It's a drive, but it is certainly worth it. The scenery is beautiful, the people are nice, there's plenty to do, and they actually are passionate about their thai dye.

We swam at North Beach one afternoon and then rented kayaks and took them out on Lake Champlain. The Adironracks looming over the water is a great view. The Lake is much larger than I expected, and when the wind picked up it felt like being on the sea.

Last night I got to hang out at Nectar's. This is the club where Phish got their start. Not hard to see how that happened considering the amount of positive energy in the room on a late summer (before the kids come back to town) Tuesday night featuring mostly blues covers. Good stuff. I also got to see my old friend Hersh who I haven't seen in years. He loves Burlington in all seasons. Then again, he is a skiier so he will tolerate 20 below temps. Not me.

Overall a very positive feeling town. I think Sand Machine should get up there next spring or summer. Would anyone consider a trip up north if we line up a show or two?

I'm in

Long before I was in Sand Machine, I played one of my favorite shows ever in Burlington. It wasn't the "opening slot" we had for Buffalo Tom at a festival (We played at noon, were followed by 6 more bands, then they performed at sunset), but rather the show on a skateboard halfpipe in some large barn we were randomly invited to play later that night. The band was called Pumpernickel 5cents, and were were a jam band, and jam we did while kids on bmx bikes rode around us. Somebody could have been hurt!
