If my walls could talk...

... and hear, they would tell you that these are the last 10 CDs I have listened to. Yup, still listening to those silver things.

10. Muswell Hillbillies by The Kinks

9. Paul Simon (self)

8. James Gang Greatest Hits

7. Garage D'Or by Cracker

6. With the Beatles

5. McLemore Ave by Booker T & the MGs

4. Leaving Wonderland in a Fit of Rage by Marcy Playground

3. Gravel Pit Manifesto by The Gravel Pit

2. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis

1. Downtown: The Greatest Hits of Petula Clark

How's this for Facebookesque self-indulgence? Well, the door is open - think about yourself some more.

for me

The last ten things I listened to were from that classical channel on comcast while I was reading in bed sick yesterday. They call it greatest hits but a lot of them are composers I've never heard before like Still and Hummel (?).

Noah's Last 10ish

-Battles - EP3 and Tras - Weird instrumental "Math rock"
-Russian Circles - Geneva - Weird Instrumental "Post Metal" - Sprawling Epic Conan the Barbarian/300 sounding badness. Currently my favorite album and band.
-John Zorn - Masada - Klezmer-ish avant garde miniature songs.
-Nels Cline - Coward - Solo album by the guitarist from Wilco doing freaky stuff on guitars
- Some weird avant garde acoustic guitar trio that I don't know who it is, again with Nels Cline in it. Snap krackle pop kinda stuff.

I usually listen to CD's in my car 4-6x in a row before changing them, and these all in a row drove me a bit insane, so to mellow it out it was then:

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
A mix CD Keri made with lots of female folk singers, some French R&B and a bit of friendly jazz like Miles and Dave Brubeck. Silky smoove.
Mike Watt - Contemplating the Engine Room - The best punk rock opera about being in the Navy that has ever been written. Nels Cline on guitar, being a bit more conventional.
RHCP - Californication - A Classic for our generation I'd have to say
City and Colour - Crisis- Smooth Canadian folkster rock

Back To Battles - Tras this AM...feeling weird again.

I also got this great set of 5 CD's and a DVD for X-mas, which came with this book about the history of The Band. There's tons of song sketches and alternate versions of songs and other unreleased material.....so great!!!! I've been devouring that on and off since I got it.....

rockin with the heritage

And along similar lines I've found myself listening to a radio show recently, old school-style on Sunday nights hosted by Steven Van Zandt called Little Steven's Underground Garage. Plays a mix of things I haven't heard in a long time that used to be called "oldies" before that term became easy listening from the late 60's, 70's and early 80's ("I Aint Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore" by the Young Rascals for example), as well as later things I don't know. But he's also not afraid to play some well-known things in there too, lending them context. And he lists all the songs and artists and other info at the end of each long set. A quote from the wikipedia page on the show:
"Van Zandt believes that rock 'n' roll is a continuum from the early 1950s onwards and that it is artificial and counter-productive to segregate music by the decade it was created. "
It's on 105.7 at 9 (I think)
