Ma Belle Amie

Anybody who is in the market for a new (old) song for their playlist should check out "Ma Belle Amie" by the Tee Set. I first heard the song when I was in 6th grade or so and it stuck with me. Probably heard it three more times on the radio since then until I finally bought it on itunes. It has the classic 60s cheesy organ going behind also cheesy love song lyrics. But the melody is very catchy, the bridge/chorus is a nice change, and the overall feel brings me back to a time when I wasn't yet born (the music video on youtube as well). The Tee Set, who are from the Netherlands, had a pretty big hit with "Ma Belle Amie" reaching #5 on the U.S. charts in 1970. You don't hear it on the radio here though. The lead singer, Peter Tetteroo, kind of sounds like a precursor to the lead guy from Blood, Sweat, and Tears (Spinnin' Wheel). Anyhow, probably more info than you needed, but check it out and let me know what you think. The man after him waits here...

is it sad or hopeful?

I'm not sure. I lean towards sad. http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~shuppr/songs/belle.htm.
The french part threw me when I was little. I was unfazed by the french in The Beatles'
Michelle though. I knew "Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble" was really " Something something play that piano song."

is it sad or hopeful?

i think it's both . . . sorta when (e.g., a song) hurts so much but is beautiful at the same time - sentimental, perhaps - when i read these lyrics, i thought the song was about the moon . . . la luna - as that's what the moon is for me (and maybe others) both sad and hopeful

I re-came across "Rumble" by Link Wray & His Ray Men. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumble_%28song%29 There are no lyrics, but then again I've never really been a lyric kind of guy. Always the music. -Scott

totally

I've heard that a number of different places but never looked into who it was or what it was called. The primitive feeling is great. Recently I heard it because I started the Sopranos journey. I had never seen episode.
